This full day workshop is geared toward PTs who are have or will be teaching pediatric content in a DPT program. Topics will cover curriculum design and models for teaching pediatric content, integration of the Pediatric Core Competencies across curricula or within standalone courses, strategies for organizing courses, active learning opportunities, clinical reasoning, and assessment of student outcomes. Participants will develop a plan for evaluating their course content and delivery methods, meet others who are teaching pediatric content to create a community of teachers/learners, and receive resources relevant to teaching pediatrics. Some pre-reading and course review is expected to maximize participant outcomes. This course may be most helpful to those teaching 5 years or less.

Sandra L. Kaplan, PT, DPT, PhD

Professor
Rutgers University

Dr. Kaplan is a Professor in the Dept. of Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences, Rutgers University, Vice-Chair for Curriculum and Accreditation and the Clinical Practice Guideline Coordinator for the APPT. Her interests include pediatric rehabilitation, evidence-based practice and knowledge translation, and clinical outcome measures. She trains clinical practice guideline writers for the APTA and was on the task force to develop the DPT Education EBP Curriculum Guidelines. She is the lead author on the 2013 and 2018 Congenital Muscular Torticollis Clinical Practice Guidelines and serves on the Orthopedic Section's Guideline Advisory Panel.

Robin L. Dole, PT, DPT, EdD

Robin L. Dole, PT, DPT, EdD is Professor and Interim Dean, School of Human Service Professions at Widener University. She is a board certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist, past chair of the Pediatric Specialty Council and provides consultation in early intervention and school-based services. She is co-author of Peds Rehab Notes and publications in PTJ and Pediatric PT. Dr. Dole received a BS in PT from Ithaca College, an MS in PT with pediatric fellowship from University of Indianapolis, an EdD in Child and Youth Studies from Nova Southeastern University, and a post-professional DPT from MGH Institute of Health Professions.

Denise M. Begnoche, DPT, PhD

Pediatric Physical Therapist
Private Practice

Denise Begnoche, PT, DPT, PhD has more than 35 years of pediatric clinical experience in early intervention, outpatient, school, and home settings, currently in private practice working with children and families in natural environments. Areas of interest include the development of walking and indicators of readiness for independent walking in children with neuromotor conditions. Interested in promoting integration of research and empirical evidence in pediatric practice, Denise has developed and taught education courses to DPT students and practicing physical therapists.
