Communicating with Pediatric Patients Who Use Sign Language - Who Knew It Could Be This Easy & Fun?!

This is a fun, interactive workshop intended to help healthcare professionals be better able to communicate with their young patients who use signs and also prepare them to introduce new signs to children. It covers 30+ single ASL signs, the manual alphabet, and numbers 1-10. Participants will learn and practice the signs and learn tips to help them effectively use signs in their practice. Participants will learn how sign language encourages speech and language development, enhances overall communication and can reduce frustration for children who are not yet able to effectively communicate using speech. The information presented is based in research and backed by the instructor’s 30 years of experience.

Jill is a pediatric speech-language pathologist and a Signing Time Academy instructor. She owns SPEECH SIGNS, LLC, in Columbia, SC, is an adjunct instructor at Columbia College, SC and is a national speaker with VYNE Education and Motivations, Inc. She presents to healthcare professionals, educators and parents on the basics of signing with young children as well as on success in early intervention. Jill received her B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from James Madison University in VA and her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from Towson University in MD. She is ASHA certified and licensed in SC.
