Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy's NEW PROFESSIONALS Boot Camp

The Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy's NEW PROFESSIONALS Boot Camp is designed for new professionals interested in a career in pediatrics. The Boot Camp will cover a variety of topics such as: how to get more involved in the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy, resources available to help create a professional development plan, examples of strategies and continuing education offerings to develop professional and leadership skills, how to determine if you should pursue residency or other post-professional education, information about advanced certifications such as the PCS and PTA APP, and how to find and develop mentoring relationships. In this session, you will hear from two pediatric therapists who have taken different career paths, and will have the opportunity to get all your questions answered!

Alyssa LaForme Fiss, PT, PhD, PCS

Associate Professor and Director, Physical Therapy Research
Mercer University

Alyssa LaForme Fiss, PT, PhD, PCS is Associate Professor and Director of Physical Therapy Research at Mercer University, where she teaches courses in research, pediatric PT, and pediatric service learning. She completed her bachelor and master degrees in PT at The Ohio State University. She completed her PhD in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Kentucky in 2007. Her research examines the developmental trajectories of children with CP. Dr. Fiss is board certified as a Pediatric Clinical Specialist and continues to provide services for children with disabilities. She currently serves as the Chair of the Practice Committee for the APPT.

Britta Battaile, PT, DPT, PCS

Battaile Pediatric Physical Therapy

Dr. Battaile earned an entry-level MPT from Krannert School of Physical Therapy and a DPT from Marymount University. She is a Board certified specialist in pediatric physical therapy and NDT trained. She has owned Battaile Pediatric Physical Therapy in Bethesda, Maryland since 1991, providing home-based pediatric PT services. She just completed two terms as the Chief Delegate to the Maryland APTA’s House of Delegates, is Chair of the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy's Membership Committee, and is co-author of the Handbook of Pediatric Physical Therapy.
