Student Bootcamp

The Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy's STUDENT Boot Camp is designed for students interested in a career in pediatrics. The Boot Camp will cover a variety of topics such as: how to get more involved with the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy as a student, organization of the Academy and leadership opportunities, how to select a practice setting post-graduation, options for student loan repayment and ways your loan debt can be consolidated, how to create and format a cover letter and resume and general interview skills for a student applying for their first professional career. In this session, students will learn valuable skills necessary to succeed in finding and selecting a job and ways to interview to get that first career. Students will hear from two new professional speakers with first hand pediatric post graduate experience.

Kenneth D. Swantek, PT, DPT

Pediatric Team Leader
Providence Health and Systems

Dr. Ken Swantek, PT, DPT, is a graduate of the DPT program from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He currently serves as team leader for therapy services in Southwest Washington for Providence Health Systems. He had the honor of serving on the Student Assembly Board of Directors as Treasurer (2011-2012) and also as the Student Assembly liaison to the Pediatrics Section. He was a chairperson for SNP (Student and New Professional Subcommittee), the early career liaison to the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy, and was an APTA Emerging Leader (2015). He has presented at previous SOPAC and NSC conferences.

Haley McDonald, PT, DPT

Pediatric Physical Therapist
Children's of Alabama

Dr. Haley McDonald, PT, DPT, is a graduate of the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program at Emory University. She currently works at Children's of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, in acute care and inpatient rehabilitation services. She is a board member of the Student and New Professional Subcommittee within the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy (APPT) serving as the Newsletter Coordinator since 2015. She also serves on the board for the Hospital-Based Special Interest Group within the APPT. She has attended many conferences including Combined Sections Meeting, National Student Conclave, and the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy Annual Conference.
