Mindfulness Matters! Practical Techniques to Integrate Mindfulness into the Treatment Session
Friday, November 9
2:15 PM - 4:45 PM
Location: Meeting Room 13/14/15 - Convention Center
Mindfulness can be an effective for children who are working on motor learning. We know that connections in the prefrontal circuits are created at their fastest rate during childhood. Mindfulness, which promotes skills that are controlled in the prefrontal cortex, like focus and cognitive control, can therefore have a significant impact on the development of skills including self-regulation, judgment, and motor learning during childhood.
Integrating mindfulness techniques through the application of breathing, movement and mental exercises allows the practitioner to have a more holistic and empowering approach the treatment session. It includes the child as an eager and active participant in the therapeutic program. Through integration of mindfulness principles into your treatment plan, you empower your child to be successful, get him or her excited to participate in therapy and will find they participate in a home program!
This intensive workshop equips the participant with the skills to practice mindfulness techniques for the child with developmental disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and sensory dysfunction. You will have an opportunity to learn and practice breathing, mental focus, movement, and relaxation techniques to improve the child’s overall health, well-being, and function.
