This session will present the importance of physical activity for children with disabilities, recommended amounts of physical activity, risks, barriers and a means to set goals and motivate children by using personal fitness tracking devices. The strengths, challenges, and outcomes of the 2017-2018 Kids Fitness Challenge will be reviewed from reports of APPT members who participated. Additionally, the presenters will discuss the utilization of the COPPA-approved application the APPT used in their Kids Fitness Challenge that allows children to anonymously follow their peers and can help keep them motivated. Participants will have the opportunity to download this app as well as the Activity Club app for the member’s Fitness Challenge. They will leave with the knowledge necessary to translate the evidence, implement it in their practices and will also have the resources needed to optimize movement for lifelong participation for themselves and the children they serve. Note: You do not have to be a previous participant in the APPT Fitness Challenge nor the Kid’s Fitness Challenge to attend this course.
