The increase in the supply and average salary of pharmacists and the number of older pharmacists remaining in the workforce have transitioned the pharmacy job market from a candidate-driven market to an employer driven-market. There is a heterogeneous mixture of Millennials, Generation Xers, and Baby Boomers working together in the field of pharmacy. Furthermore, Generation Z is poised to enter the workforce very soon. These generations have notable differences in their work ethic and values, technology comfort levels, views on work/life balance, and leadership styles.
This session aims to discuss trends in the workplace, opportunities for payers to address Millennials’ training needs, opportunities for Millennials to “manage up,” and ways to improve communication and collaboration across different generations of employees in managed care pharmacy.
