Please note that this session has a sister roundtable session titled, RT3: “Optimizing Medication Use in Value-Based Models of Care”, taking place today from 4:45 pm to 5:45 pm in room Atlanta. Space is limited on a first come first served basis for the first 30 attendees.
As accountable care organizations (ACOs) proliferate, managed care organizations (MCOs) and commercial health systems are seeking more cost-effective ways to use medications optimally. Pharmacists are in a prime position to help these agreements succeed through development of data-driven cost saving and quality initiatives. Pharmacists in the MCOs are able to leverage data analytics that can help health systems identify medications for targeted interventions. Health system pharmacists are able to influence systems changes and involve prescribing physicians across a clinically integrated network (CIN) to execute initiatives.
This session will describe the collaboration between a CIN and managed care pharmacist by detailing the process of developing, implementing, and tracking cost saving and quality initiatives from the health plan and CIN’s perspective. It will also provide insight for ongoing and future collaborative opportunities, including cooperating on the management of high cost specialty medications and promoting biosimilars.
