Symposium on the Future of Libraries
The opioid epidemic has added a new dimension to library security. Opiate users are buying, selling, and taking drugs in libraries and other facilities and raising concerns for overdoses and even deaths in these spaces. Dr. Steve Albrecht, a retired police officer and author of Library Security: Better Communication, Safer Facilities, will explore the safety and security issues resulting from opiate use, strategies for recognizing and responding to opiate users in medical distress, and the on-going national discussion about providing Narcan training to library staffers.
