Dr. Matthew R. Griffis’ primary area of research is the library as place, a focus that includes library buildings as social architecture, rural libraries, and public libraries as community spaces. He also studies the history of library architecture, Carnegie libraries in North America, the history of postcards and postcard collecting, and qualitative methods in LIS research.
