Annual Conference Session
ALA Unit/Subunit: ALA
Meeting Type: Discussion Group
Cost: Included with full conference registration.
America is considered the cradle of comics but just look at how comics have evolved and diversified locked away on the European continent, to the point of becoming almost unrecognizable, much like Darwin’s finches! Publishers, agents and creators with experience on both sides of the Atlantic will enlighten us on how to read European comics and what differentiates them from their American cousins. Characteristics such as format, art and narrative techniques, social status, readership, stereotypes, censorship and adult content will be discussed with Elise Gravel (The Mushroom Fan Club), Mark Siegel (First Second Books), Thomas Campi (Magritte, Joe Schuster Story), Sophie Castille (Mediatoon Licensing/Europe Comics) and Charlotte Moundlic (French Comics Association/Rue de Sèvres). Moderated by Andrew Woodrow-Butcher (The Beguiling/TCAF).
