Libraries continue to purchase or subscribe to large amounts of electronic content. Almost all of these materials have a license that governs usage and libraries must take care to ensure that they aren’t tossing away rights, are in compliance with institutional polices, state laws, and more. Beyond that, licenses also offer the best opportunity for libraries to lock in prices and guarantee favorable permissions for their patrons. This session will provide librarians charged with reviewing, negotiating, and processing licenses with fundamental information that will ensure they not only understand the contents of a license but are also able to successfully complete the licensing life cycle from start to finish. The contents of the program will include basic concepts, real word examples, and tips for negotiation.
