NPID-2 - Ethics and Individual Choice

Tuesday, October 9
9:30 AM - 11:00 AM
CE: NAB: 1.5 | Nurses 1.5

This highly interactive, case-based session will examine circumstances in which service providers and recipients of services disagree about the details of a service plan. We will discuss the appropriate role of autonomy and define its limits. We will consider case studies in which individuals should be permitted the dignity of risk, cases in which paternalistic intervention is justified, and situations in which autonomy may be limited in order to protect others from harm or offense. Topics will be relevant to all areas of service including ID/DD providers, assisted living staff, and those working in the skilled care environment.
