CE-1 - Real People: Capturing Resident Life Stories and Highlighting them in Social Media

Monday, October 8
3:15 PM - 4:45 PM
CE: NAB: 1.5 | Nurses 0

Every person is unique, and each person has an amazing story to tell. Basic information is gathered upon admission with an assessment or social history, but it’s typically not enough to really individualize care planning. The information may not be easily available or compelling enough to let direct care staff know about the resident, so we will explore strategies for making it visible and useful. It is essential to capture each resident’s story if possible, to know the uniqueness of this person and the activities, conversations, and life story that will matter to them. This process begins immediately with the marketing and admissions team (not life enrichment). Family members’ expectations are high—they want your community to deliver on the promises to individualize service and care. We will identify simple ways communities can highlight “real people” stories on their social media pages and some of the tips for success with stories on Facebook and in other media. We will share authentic stories as examples—real people who have everyday yet extraordinary stories. Participants in this session will see examples of highly engaging stories on social media and brainstorm together the importance of celebrating each person while we have the chance—and ensuring a lasting legacy, too!
