SR-5 - Requirements of Participation: Abuse and Neglect Reporting and Investigation
Tuesday, October 9
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM
CE: NAB: 1.5 | Nurses 1.5
An integral part of abuse and neglect prevention and resident protection resides with the skilled nursing providers and the employees serving these individuals. The role of every provider, administrator, nurse, and employee is directed and reinforced by state laws and regulations. Failure to appropriately respond to abuse, neglect, and exploitation places vulnerable adults at risk and brings significant regulatory reprisal, including citations and enforcement actions. This session provides an overview and refresher for skilled nursing providers and employees regarding the requirements and expectations in the LTCF Requirements of Participation related to mandatory reporting and investigations of abuse and neglect.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the federal requirements related to mandatory reporting and the key elements of a thorough investigation in a skilled nursing facility
- Describe the regulatory definitions of abuse, neglect, and exploitation that guide mandatory reporting and necessary investigations in a skilled nursing facility
- Identify the facility’s responsibilities related to implementing and maintaining an effective and responsive abuse prohibition program
