Heidi J. Keeler, PhD, RN, Assistant Professor, Omaha Division.; Director, Continuing Nursing Education, University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing; AHCA/NCAL Gero Nurse Prep, received her baccalaureate degree in nursing from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (Amherst, Massachusetts), and her doctoral degree in nursing from The University of Nebraska Medical Center (Omaha, Nebraska). Dr. Keeler's clinical background is in adult medical surgical nursing, including cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, gynecology, and general surgery, as well as care of elders in the long term care setting.
Dr. Keeler joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing in 2011 as an assistant professor in the Community-Based Health Department. Dr. Keeler's areas of research interest are health promotion and prevention, specifically health policy and advocacy, and health risk reduction. She has published articles on both topics in the Journal of Nursing Management, and the Journal of Pediatric Nursing. She also serves as Director of the Continuing Nursing Education Office, which entails collaboration with multiple medical and professional disciplines to develop and implement continuing education programs, and provides content and editorial support for the Gerontological Nurse Certification Preparation Course. She is interested in advancing scholarship in nursing education, particularly concerning the advancement of distance education and eLearning.
