DC-1 - Turning Compliance into Connections – Technology as a Key to Person-Centered Approaches for Dementia Care

Monday, October 8
7:45 AM - 9:00 AM
CE: NAB: 1.25 | Nurses 1.25

The new regulations and guidance that have been implemented by CMS have placed emphasis on resident preferences, choices, and person-centered approaches. There are multiple examples of expectations in regulatory guidance that can be met by implementing technology that focuses on the person. Technology can be a powerful tool and an integral part of everyday life that can now be used to drive purposeful and person-centered interactions across multiple senior living environments. When the right tools are used correctly it significantly enhances the ability of senior living team members to rehabilitate, engage, and care for residents with dementia. Current research validates that use of technology leads to improved outcomes in several domains: clinical needs, rehabilitation, and meaningful engagement. This session will review practical examples of implementing multiple types of technologies, not just one particular vendor or tool. Examples of outcomes of reduction of psychotropic medications, improved family visits, and resident engagement will be shared. Person-centered technology, while once considered a novelty is becoming a market demand; newer generations of senior living residents and their families are arriving, with an understanding of the value of technology for creating a more connected life. This session will provide practical ideas of available tools and how to use them to improve not only outcomes and regulatory compliance, but also resident, family, and team member satisfaction.
