This program will provide an update on pain control and prescription drug misuse and demonstrate how dental schools are addressing this challenge. Presenters from University of Minnesota and University of Pittsburgh will discuss curricular changes, clinical protocols, and patient education that have resulted in improvements in prescribing practices as well as in student learning and patient satisfaction. The impact of policies, protocols and guidelines for pain management and safe prescribing of controlled substances will be described.
