TL-021 - Clinical Systems Management: Students Can Learn While Running the Practice
Monday, March 19
11:45 AM - 12:05 PM
Location: Exhibit Hall E&F
Target Audience: Faculty
Learning Focus: Teaching and Learning
While research identifies a more effective teaching model as active learning, key concepts in practice management are still widely taught through passive learning in the lecture hall. In student run dental practices, students can learn how to utilize informatics to monitor practice performance, measure clinical outcomes and provide quality assurance. Leading their dental teams can directly teach them how to make data driven decisions and provide opportunities for intraprofessional communication. Participants will learn how active learning through a student run dental practice will improve learning outcomes and establish the critical thinking skills necessary for future oral healthcare providers.
- Teach practice management, team communication,\ and legal regulations through student run practices.
- Demonstrate the improvement of learning outcomes through student run practices.
- Satisfy ethics and practice management accreditation standards through the participation of students on student dental boards.
