TI-001 - How to Use EHR Data for Research

Sunday, March 18
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Location: Miami 1&2
CE: 1.5

Target Audience: Faculty

Learning Focus: Technological Innovations

Dental Education: Public Health Dentistry

Given the monetary and time expense of clinical trials, it is prudent to use the informational byproducts of regular health care to expand our knowledge and improve practice. Electronic health records (EHRs) have now been adopted by the vast majority of dental schools but remain a largely untapped resource for discovery and scholarly activity. Several dental schools contribute EHR data to the BigMouth Dental Data Repository, containing data from over 2 million patients. This workshop will showcase how dental school faculty, residents and students use data from their individual EHRs or BigMouth to rapidly develop and answer clinically meaningful research questions.
