Self-assessment curricular content is mandated as part of the Accreditation Standards for Dental and Dental Hygiene Education Programs. The literature indicates a greater emphasis on self-assessment in curriculum is needed to better prepare students to assess their performance in practice. Researchers agree that training is critical to foster student self-assessment skills. Effective feedback is vital in the development of this skill. Participants will discuss ideas for fostering self-assessment and critical thinking in the curriculum and will actively participate in goal setting, skill self-assessment, and providing effective feedback with Socratic questioning using a collaborative case study approach.
