Advanced applications of ultrasonography will be discussed. Uses of techniques such as elastography and Doppler ultrasonography for musculoskeletal disease are covered. Use of ultrasonography to augment surgical decision making in musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, and respiratory disease are presented.


Pablo Espinosa Mur, DVM, DACVS

University of California, Davis

Dr. Pablo Espinosa obtained his veterinary degree at the University Complutense of Madrid. Following veterinary school, he started his professional career in a large animal private practice in the east of France, and then completed an internship in equine medicine and surgery at the University of Montreal. Following his internship, Dr. Espinosa worked for an orthopedic referral practice in Paris for one year, and then completed an equine surgery internship at Milton Equine Hospital in Canada. He completed the a large animal surgical residency at UC Davis. He currentyl serves the Large Animal Clinic in several capacities, including the Large Animal Intensive Care Unit, surgery services, clinical trials, and PET scan research. Dr. Espinosa’s specific clinical interests are orthopedic surgery, lameness and soft tissue surgery.

Clinical Professor Large animal Orthopedic Surgery and Lameness
North Carolina State University

Dr. W. Rich Redding is a Clinical Professor at North Carolina State University-College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Redding’s main area of interest is lameness, diagnostic imaging and orthopedic surgery in the performance horse. He was in private practice first in Lexington, KY and Middleburg, VA. His residency training in surgery was completed at Iowa State University, this was followed by him being in private surgery referral practice for 5 years in Midwest prior to coming to N. C. State in 1995. Since joining the staff at NC State he has continued to explore new techniques in musculoskeletal imaging with a special focus on ultrasound and MRI in the sport horse.
