Outcomes associated with the surgical treatment of hip disease are discussed. Dr. William “Mike” Karlin is an Assistant Professor in Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Dr. Karlin was the first surgeon to pass the requirments for dual certification through ACVS becoming a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) in both Small Animal and Large Animal. He graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. He went on to complete a three year residency program and Masters Degree at the University of Illinois in Equine Surgery in 2010. Working in provate practice at an equine surgical referral center for several years before completed the requirments for dual certification in Small Animal Surgery, at Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists. His areas of clinical and research interest include arthroscopy, fracture healing, fracture repair and orthopedic implants including minimally invasive methods, total joint replacement, osteoarthritis, and assesment and correction of limb deformity.

Dr. Stanley Kim is Associate Professor in Small Animal Surgery at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida. Dr. Kim received his veterinary degree from the University of Sydney in 2003. After 2 years in general small animal practice, he completed an Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2006. Dr. Kim undertook a combined MS / Residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Florida from 2006 to 2010. Dr. Kim has since remained at the University of Florida as a faculty member in small animal surgery, with a focus in orthopedics. Dr. Kim is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. His research interests are in the field of minimally invasive orthopedic surgery, fracture repair, joint replacement and orthopedic biomechanics.

After obtaining DVM at Osaka Prefecture University, Japan, I had worked in small animal practice for 6 years. I started stem cell and biomaterial research in 2015 at Dr. Dominique Griffon's lab, Western University of Health Sciences, CA where I obtained MS.

Member of the Technical Commission of the Italian Kennel Club from 2000 to 2012. President of Fondazione Salute Animale (FSA) and Chairman of the FSA Panel for Canine Hip and Elbow Displasia Official Control since 1995. Orthopaedic consultant at the Veterinary School of Vienna in 2010 and 2011, Associate Professor in Orthopedics at the Veterinary School of Milan since 2009. Speaker in several national and international meetings and Author on orthopaedics, radiology, surgery. His main interests are early diagnosis and treatment of Hip Dysplasia and Elbow Dysplasia and Joint Replacement. Recipient of the 2013 ACVS Merit Award in San Antonio, Texas, 24th October 2013, for his sustained and distinguished contributions to the art and science of veterinary surgery.
