This morning portion will detail how 3D printing works and the steps involved in 3D printing an object. It will present how 3D printing can be used in medicine and the current applications in the field. Complications with current limb sparing techniques in dogs will be reviewed and how 3D printing reduces the risks of complication.

Sarah graduate from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1996. She completed a rotating internship at the University of Guelph the following year. She then returned to Western Canada for 3 years of general practice before going to the University of Guelph for a residency and DVSc in small animal surgery. She became board-certified with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004 and completed a Post doctoral Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at CSU in 2005. She is an ACVS Founding Fellow of Surgical Oncology. Sarah was on faculty at the University of Guelph for 5 years before moving south to the Univeristy of Florida where she was an Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology for 5 years. She is now a recovering academic, working with VCA Canada in the Toronto area. She is the Past-President of Veterinary Society of Surgical Oncology and has authored numerous journal articles in textbook chapters on surgical oncology, some of them good. Sarah is also a published author. Her first book, Lucky Dog: How Being a Veterinarian Saved my Life, was published by the House of Anansi Press.

David E. Holt, BVSc, DACVS

Professor of Surgery
University of Pennsylvania

David Holt is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and Professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He is part of a team that have been using near-infrared (NIR) fluorophores and imaging systems to identify cancer, cancer margins, and metastatic lymph nodes intraoperatively for over six years. The work performed in clinical canine and feline cancer patients has led to five clinical trials in human cancer patients.

Dr. David Prawel has enjoyed a 38 year career as a developer, entrepreneur, consultant and educator in 3D technology and digital product development. He helped build 6 startup companies, with one successful IPO and one in the works. He earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Buffalo, and a Ph.D. from Colorado State University in Biomedical Engineering. He is currently on the Research Faculty in Mechanical Engineering at CSU, where he develops biomaterials and runs the Idea2Product 3D printing lab (www.idea2product.net), which he founded in 2012. In addition to his love affair with 3D technology, he is also married for 35 years to a remarkable and extremely understanding woman and has an extraordinary son who is shaking things up in high-tech.

Dr. Séguin obtained his DVM from the University of Montréal. He performed a small animal internship at the University of Illinois. He completed a Master’s of Science and Small Animal Surgery Residency at Washington State University. He then went on to fulfill his Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Colorado State University. He was on Faculty at the University of California, Davis, and Oregon State University. He is currently an Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology at the Flint Animal Cancer Center, Colorado State University.
