Jose Casillas, DVM. Currently, second year large animal surgery resident at Michigan State University. Completed veterinary school at Colorado State University in 2016. Equine sports medicine and surgery internship at Texas Equine Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Cliff Honnas. Special interest in orthopedic surgery, sports medicine/rehabilitation and podiatry of both equine and bovine species.

Dr. Louis Kamus, DMV, MSc, is currently a 3rd year resident in Large Animal Surgery at the University of Montreal. He graduated from the National Veterinary School of Lyon in France in 2013. He completed an internship at the Equine hospital of the Uniersity of Montreal in 2014 followed by a Equine Surgery internship in a private practice in Ontario (Milton Equine Hospital) in 2015. He completed a Master in Equine Wound Healing at the University of Montreal before beginning his residency.

Sarah M. Khatibzadeh, DVM, is a third-year Large Animal Surgical Resident at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Originally from Dallas, Texas, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science (2010) and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (2014) from Cornell University. She completed rotating internships in equine surgery and medicine at New England Equine Practice (Patterson, NY) and at the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center (Leesburg, VA) prior to beginning her residency. She is currently completing her Master of Science in the laboratory of Dr. Linda Dahlgren on in vitro investigation of tendon regeneration and healing.

Dr. Jordan Kirkpatrick, DVM, completed her Large Animal Surgery residency at the University of Minnesota in July 2018. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 2013. She completed an internship at Chino Valley Equine Hospital followed by a Large Animal Surgery internship at the University of Florida before beginning her residency at the University of Minnesota. She is currently a clinical instructor in Large Animal Surgery at the University of Minnesota.

Drew Koch is currently the second-year equine surgery resident at Colorado State University. He graduated with his DVM from Colorado State University in 2016 and completed a rotating surgery and medicine internship at Pioneer Equine Hospital the following year.

His current clinical interests include orthopedic and upper respiratory surgery. His current research includes examination of the effect of bipolar radiofrequency energy on articular cartilage and the meniscus along with use of tissue engineering strategies to create novel osteochondral implants for articular resurfacing.

Cole Sandow is a surgery associate at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. After graduation from veterinary school he completed a surgery internship at Hagyard before working at a racetrack practice in New Orleans, LA. This was followed by an internal medicine fellowship at Hagyard prior to completing an equine surgery residency and Master’s degree in Biomedical and Veterinary Clinical Sciences at LSU.
