Learn how to make thoughtful and informed decisions regarding anesthesia induction, monitoring, and perioperative analgesia in an ever-changing world of new drugs and disappearing drugs. Evidence-based information on new drugs available within the last year and clinically relevant drug combinations that can be used in daily practice to provide effective anesthesia and analgesia with minimal side effects is presented. Also included is practical information to help both the practitioner and technician optimize their monitoring techniques in order to minimize patient morbidity and mortality during the anesthetic period.


John R. Dodam, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVAA

Professor and Chair
University of Missouri

Dr. Dodam earned his DVM degree in 1985 at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and worked as an associate veterinarian in mixed rural practice. He then completed an anesthesiology residency, MS (pharmacology), PhD (physiology), and a postdoctoral fellowship at North Carolina State University. In 1995, Dr. Dodam joined the anesthesiology and emergency and critical care services at the University of Missouri, where he currently serves as chair of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.
