Includes the second annual AVST Technician case report presentations highlighting technician's involvement in surgical cases. Each case is presented over a 15-minute period followed by a 5-minute question/answer session with the speaker by either the audience or judging panel. The remainder of the program focuses on neurologic surgical topics and common surgical complications that the surgical technician might encounter in a surgical practice.

Veterinary Technician
University of Tennessee

DANIELLE BROWNING, LVMT, VTS (Surgery), is the ward technician for University of Tennessee small animal soft tissue surgery service. She is a founding board member for the Academy of Veterinary Surgical Technicians. Ms. Browning shares responsibility for instructing students, interns, and residents on wound management techniques. She is a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University Veterinary Technology program and a frequent speaker on soft tissue topics at both national and international meetings.

Karen Ellis LVT, VTS (Surgery) is a Surgery Technical Staff Supervisor at Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery. Karen became a VTS in surgery as part of the first group to take the credentialing exam in 2013. Since then, Karen has served on the AVST board as President-Elect, President and Past President. Karen has presented at ACVS, AAHA and WVC and has written publications for the NAVTA Journal, Veterinary Team Brief and Today's Veterinary Technician.

Steven Frederick, RVT, VTS (Surgery) is a senior technician in the orthopedics department at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Atlanta, Georgia, where he has been employed since 2010. He has been a registered technician for 8 years, and he was admitted into the Academy of Veterinary Surgical Technicians in 2014.

Steven lives in the suburbs of Atlanta with his South African Mastiff, Bigwig.

Caleb C. Hudson, DVM, MS, DACVS-SA

Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists

Caleb Hudson is a native of Louisiana. He attended Veterinary school at the University of Missouri. After receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2007, he moved to Gainesville Florida, to complete a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Florida. Dr. Hudson stayed at the University of Florida to complete a small animal surgery residency and a masters program. After completing his residency, Dr. Hudson spent a year as faculty at the University of Florida. In 2013, he moved to Houston, TX and joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists, where he is currently employed as a surgeon. His special interests include total joint replacement and minimally invasive surgery. In his free time Dr. Hudson enjoys rock climbing and distance running.

Brandi Pooley, CVT is the Lead Surgery Veterinary Technician at Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. She is an advanced level Senior Certified Veterinary Technician with a proven skill emphasis on elective, emergency/critical care, geriatric/neonatal veterinary anesthesia and analgesia technique and protocol. Sher has over 8 years of experience including exotics, large, and small animals in both private practice and University settings with several professional publications and nationwide conference presentations. Brandi is a highly accomplished professional that enjoys continuing education and teaching, which lead to the successful creation and implementation of a veterinary anesthesia new graduate internship program. On her free time, Brandi enjoys spending time outdoors and playing with her red heeler, Bentley, her Belgian Malinois, Glock, and her two chinchillas, Chincherella and Fiji.
