Dalton Paxman, PhD, since November 2000, has served as the Regional Health Administrator for the mid-Atlantic region, where he oversees public health initiatives for the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Among the prevention priorities his office is leading include: Childhood Obesity; Tobacco-Free College Campus Initiative (Tobacco Prevention and Cessation); Million Hearts Initiative (Cardiovascular Disease); and health disparities in seasonal flu vaccination rates. Recent initiatives in his office include public health approaches to addressing substance abuse and misuse and an Appalachian Health Initiative, which focuses on reducing health disparities in the Appalachian region by developing healthy communities. He also administers regional public health programs in Minority Health, Population Affairs, Women’s Health, and the HIV/AIDS Regional Resource Network.
