Dr. Eva Szigethy, MD, PhD, FACG, is a Professor of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Medicine at University of Pittsburgh with a secondary appointment at Harvard University. She serves as Director of the Visceral Inflammation and Pain (VIP) Center at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Behavioral Director of the IBD Total Care Program, a subspecialty medical home. For over 16 years, Dr. Szigethy has studied the effects of inflammatory bowel disease on the brain with specific emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of depression, sleep disturbance, and pain in children, adolescents, and adults. Her research has been funded by the NIH, NIMH and most recently by a CCFA Senior Scientist grant. Her current research focused on taking empirically proven behavioral interventions for patients with IBD and incorporating them into changing health care delivery. She is also studying how digital behavioral solutions can improve mental health access and outcomes in patients with GI and other chronic diseases.
