Dr. Samarasena received his medical degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, where he graduated on the Dean’s List. He completed both general gastroenterology and interventional endoscopy fellowships at University of California, Irvine. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He was recently recognized as one of the Top 5 physicians in the Ambulatory Surgery group at UC Irvine for patient satisfaction by Press-Ganey for two years in a row. He was named to the “Best Doctors” list for the past 3 years. He is currently the Program Director of the UC Irvine Endoscopic Ultrasound/Interventional Endoscopy Fellowship and was named the 2016 Teaching Attending of the Year by the UC Irvine Gastroenterology Fellowship. He is a former President of Orange County GI Society and is a Fellow of ACG.
