Dr. Paul Moayyedi is the Director of the Division of Gastroenterology and Acting Director of the Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute at McMaster University. He was also joint Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Gastroenterolog from 2010-2015. He qualified from Bristol University in 1988 and trained in gastroenterology at Leeds' General Infirmary, UK. He was awarded a PhD in 1999 and a Master's in Public Health in 2000, both from the University of Leeds. He was appointed Professor of Gastroenterology Health Services Research at the University of Birmingham in 2001 and then moved to McMaster University, Hamilton, and holds the Audrey Campbell Chair of Ulcerative Colitis Research. Dr. Moayyedi has published over 350 peer-reviewed articles and 19 book chapters. His h index is 100 and his work has been cited over 39,000 times. He is a proponent of evidence-based medicine, and is the joint coordinating editor of the Upper Gastrointestinal and Pancreatic Diseases Cochrane Review Group. He has been involved in the development of several national and international guidelines including the American College of Gastroenterology/Canadian Association of Gastroenterology Dyspepsia Guideline.
