4 - Nepali Nurses in the Global Healthcare Market

Friday, July 6
2:40 PM - 4:10 PM
Location: Maple, Lower Ground Floor

Nursing in Nepal is relatively a new profession, began only in the 1960s, training only small number of nurses per year. International nurse migration from Nepal began around the new millennium and has continued until now with increasing numbers of international destinations in recent years. In this presentation, I will discuss the trend of Nepali nurses’ participation in the global healthcare market, based on a number of qualitative studies that have been carried out for over a decade in the UK and Nepal. Specifically, I will provide an overview of how the nurse migration trends began in Nepal and how the flow of migrants has been fluctuating and diverting accordingly to meet the demands for the healthcare labor in some key destination such as the US, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.
