Naturally, the foreign direct investment could cause conflict between investors and the local community. Many measures have been initiated in order to solve any potential discontentment, for example, corporate social responsibility activities. Japanese business organizations had this experience in the 1970s during anti-Japanese movement in Southeast Asia. They tried to solve this conflict through business measure.

However, in their normal operation, the cultural exchange occurred unexpectedly. The research found that in order to overcome labor shortage and recruit skilled local labor, business corporates engaged various training programs. The training program, such as AOTS was the point where human exchange occurred. Japanese and Thai were sent to each other countries. In teaching and learning process they tried to understand each other. AOTS alumni spread their good impression about Japan to new-comers and the younger generation of workers. They also got together and established Thai-Nishi Institute of Technology which later on became a university teaching both Japanese technology and language. Knowledge about Japan and Japanese working culture expanded even wider.

Cultural exchange occurred both ways. Japanese employers also needed to learn about Thai working culture. They and their families stayed in Thailand temporarily. Through their interaction with local Thai, the Japanese learn Thai way of life, and the Thai learned Japanese language as a part of job seeking attempt. Cultural exchange happened through business-related activities.
