Richard A. Henker, PhD, CRNA, FAAN

Dr. Henker is a Professor in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Dr. Henker’s research focuses on genomics related to postoperative pain and malignant hyperthermia. In addition to teaching in the classroom and clinical settings, Dr. Henker uses simulation methods for teaching at the Winter Institute for Simulation, Education and Research. Dr. Henker is currently the AANA representative to the G4 Alliance, a group that advocates for improved access to anesthesia and surgical care in low and middle-income countries. He has coordinated the development of nurse anesthesia programs through Health Volunteers Overseas in Belize, Cambodia, Lao, and Bhutan. Dr. Henker practices as a nurse anesthetist at UPMC-Presbyterian, Angkor Hospital for Children, Lao Friends Hospital for Children and Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital.
