Can We Talk? Conversation Tips to Support a Colleague Following an Adverse Event Part 2 (1 Class A CE)

This mini-workshop will provide training on how you can recognize and help colleagues suffering following a critical adverse event through peer support conversations. This session will provide key talking points and how to utilize available resources.

Dr. Van Pelt is an Associate Clinical Professor and the Program Director of the Nurse Anesthesia program at Northeastern University. She has been a practicing clinically for 20 years and has a research interest in patient safety. She is currently the Chair of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation Committee for Education and Training and is on the APSF Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Linda K. Kenney, Executive Director and President of MITSS (Medically Induced Trauma Support Services, Inc.), founded the organization in 2002 as the result of a personal experience with a nearly fatal medical event, when she identified the need for support services in cases of adverse events and outlined an agenda for change. Since that time, she has been at the forefront of the patient safety movement, inspiring organizations to tackle the challenges that impair effective disclosure, apology, and support programs for patients, families, and staff. She speaks regularly at healthcare conferences and forums, provides in-depth consultations to hospitals and other organizations, and her expertise has been sought on numerous patient safety projects throughout the country and around the globe.

Lynn Reede is Chief Clinical Officer of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. In her role she contributes leadership and mentorship to support the Practice, Practice Management, Health & Wellness, Peer Assistance, Workforce Strategic Initative, State, Federal and external advocacy programs. Lynn serves as a member of the National Quality Forum Surgery Standing Committee, Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation Board of Directors as a second term Director, American Society of Enhanced Recovery CRNA Committee, National Academy of Practice Policy and Advocacy Workshop Committees, and as the AANA representative to the Nurses on Boards Coalition.
