Ultrasound education among anesthesia providers varies greatly as its use in anesthesia related procedures is fairly recent as well as the training and education received in anesthesia training programs. Baseline knowledge among anesthesia providers becomes sufficient so that ultrasound can be used safely to improve patient care and outcomes.

Christian Falyar is an assistant professor in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia at Duke University. In addition, he serves as adjunct faculty for the AANA’s and Middle Tennessee School of Nurse Anesthesia’s acute pain fellowship. Dr. Falyar has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and has presented numerous lectures at the local, state and national level. For the past five years, he has served as the coordinator for the open ultrasound scanning labs at the AANA Annual Congress. In his free time, he maintains www.vaultrasound.com, a free educational website dedicated to ultrasound-guided anesthesia procedures.
