It is vital that CRNAs' knowledge and attitudes regarding pain and pain management of opioid-dependent patients with chronic pain be assessed and understood if patient care is to be improved in this complex and growing patient population. Findings from research regarding CRNAs' knowledge and attitudes in perioperative pain management can contribute substantively to the improvement of anesthesia practice, education, care delivery models, and relevant health care policy.

Tatyana Aultman, Ph.D., is completed her Ph.D. at Biomedical Sciences from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with a focus in perioperative pain management of opioid-dependent patients with chronic pain. Dr. Aultman worked as a CRNA at the San Antonio Military Medical Center providing anesthesia services for civilian and military patients with combat-related injuries from Operation New Dawn (Iraq) and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), as well as serving as a clinical instructor for SRNAs and medical residents. Research Interests:
• Quantitative and mixed-method research methodologies
• Acute and chronic pain management
• Patients with chronic pain and substance abuse disorders
