Best Practices in the Care for Transgender Patients ( 1 Class A CE with .25 Pharm)

Increased knowledge and awareness of anesthesia providers on transgender terminologies, gender preference, stage of transition, and state of hormone replacement therapy in order to decrease ambiguity, foster trust, diminish uncertainty, and decrease ambiguity in the care of transgender patients in the surgical arena, which will produce better outcomes. Increased proficiency in the care of transgender patients with continued promotion of a safe, respectful, and holistic approach to anesthesia delivery.

Dr. Castillo has been a Registered Nurse for 10 years before specializing in Anesthesia in 2005. He is practicing as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in Naples since 2007. Dr. Castillo earned his PhD in Instructional Design and Technology from Keiser University in 2016. He has been active as a FANA member, serving in committees and the Board of Directors. He is the current FANA Secretary Treasurer and the Chair of Florida’s Quality and Unity in Nursing Council, and will be inducted as President-Elect of FANA this October 2018. He has served five cumulative years in AANA's Program/Professional Development Committee. This year, he is serving as a member of AANA's Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
