The Great Tape Debate: An Update on Ocular Injuries in the Operating Room (.5 Class A CE)

There is a lack of knowledge and practice guidelines of ocular injuries and adhesives during routine anesthetic care. The potential/actual injuries from adhesive products in use for ocular protection in the operating room are the cause of ocular insult during routine anesthetic care. Participants will review current peri-operative strategies and products to promote patient safety.

Tammy Smit is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist on a mission to assist student nurse anesthetists and practicing nurse anesthetists navigate the labyrinth of continuing education requirements required to maintain professional practice from the state to national level. Ms. Smit knows what it takes to research, obtain and organize state and nationally required education requirements. Tammy has developed CRNA-specific educational content and delivered presentations on what it takes to maintain professional practice. She is an advocate for education and professional practice acting as the educational coordinator for the CRNA team at her place of employment. She is a published author and speaker. Ms. Smit received her Masters of Nurse Anesthesia from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, TX.

Krista Costa earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University in Dallas. She is currently in attendance at Texas Christian University as a graduate student in the School of Nurse Anesthesia program. Krista is excited to begin her career as a nurse anesthetist upon completion of TCU's program this December.
