Minimizing Risk, Maximizing Safety for Cardiac Patient Undergoing Non-Cardiac Surgery: Applying Current Standards of Pre-Operative Evaluation (.75 Class A CE with .25 Pharm)

Saturday, September 22
10:45 AM - 11:30 AM
Location: Room 311, Hynes

Peri-operative guidelines for risk stratification and anesthetic management for the patient with cardiovascular disease are rapidly changing. A multidisciplinary approach is necessary to minimize risk and maximize safe anesthetic and surgical outcomes. Due to compromised cardiac status, the demands of surgery and anesthesia present a challenge in managing these patients. If the patient requires urgent or emergent surgery, the risks increase significantly. This lecture will describe how a meticulous preoperative anesthesia evaluation will optimize care of the patient with ischemic heart disease and will also explore current risk recommendations and peri-operative risk reduction strategies for the cardiac patient undergoing non-cardiac surgery.
