The Impaired Provider: Are You One of Them? (1 Class A CE)

Many providers recognize only drug and alcohol intoxication as "impairments". There is a current lack of understanding of what it means to be "impaired" and how to manage impairment in self and colleagues. Awareness, prevention and avoidance of become impaired during delivery of anesthesia will be discussed.

Dr. Jennifer Oakes is the Program Director for the nurse anesthesia program at Mount Marty College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is a pracitcing CRNA in Luverne, Minnesota. She is also a member of the SDANA Board of Directors and advocates for CRNA practice, education and patient safety.

Dr. Marco graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She currently serves as Professor of Emergency Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
She serves on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Emergency Medicine. She currently serves as Research Director at the Wright State University Department of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Marco has published numerous research manuscripts and book chapters on medical ethics, resuscitation, airway, and pain management. She recently published a book entitled “Ethical Dilemmas in Emergency Medicine”.

Allison Ensign is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and is currently employed at West Front Primary Care in Traverse City, Michigan. Throughtout her career as a cardiac and labor & delivery RN, Allison has advocated for improving care quality and patient safety. Prior to her career in medicine, Allison was a news anchor for WEYI in Clio, Michigan where she produced and anchored local news cuts during The Today Show.
