Dr. Shields is a cardiothoracic nurse anesthetist at Vanderbilt and has been practicing in Nashville Tennessee for 30 years. He is involved with the American Society of Echocardiography, the Point of Care Ultrasound Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the European Society of Cardiology. He has trained extensively with advanced echo techniques for cardiac surgery including 3-D with Phillips and his practice includes heart and lung transplantation and left ventricular assist devices. Dr. Shields has published in Anesthesia and Analgesia, the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia and the AANA Journal, and is on faculty at Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia.
