Peer Review and Responding to Peer Review (1 Class A CE)

This session is a part of the "Writers Workshop: Writing for Professional/Scholarly Publication". Additional registration is required for this workshop. Please visit the registration desk for further information.

The workshop will include presentations and a discussion regarding what constitutes a good idea, the process of marshaling that idea to a tangible product that merits consideration for publication, and anticipating what will occur during the peer review process. Exemplars will be used to explore optimizing the process and the workshop will be led by senior leaders of the AANA Journal Committee.

Chuck Biddle, PhD, CRNA, is on the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University and maintains a clinical practice there. His major research interests are in the broad domain of patient safety with a particular interest in infectious disease transmission and remote monitoring of post-surgical patients. He serves as editor in chief of the AANA Journal and reviews manuscripts for several biomedical publications and resources including the Anaesthesia Section of the Cochrane Library. He is the author of Evidence Trumps Belief: Nurse Anesthetists and Evidence-Based Decision Making (AANA Publishing).

He is presently a full time faculty member in the Nurse Anesthesia Program where he teaches Pharmacology and Advanced Anesthesia Principles. In addition, he is the Director of the Simulation-Based Academic Fellowship in Advanced Pain Management which provides experienced CRNA’s with advanced training and evidence based-knowledge in the practice of pain management. Dr. O'Sullivan is the director of the University of Iowa DNP Program in Nurse Anesthesia. He obtained his CRNA from the Ravenswood Hospital Schools of Nurse Anesthesia, his MSN from De Paul University, and his Ph.D. in Health Services and Policy with a focus in Health Economics from the University of Iowa. He also loves the Hawkeyes and ALL CHicago sports teams.

Dr. Derrick C. Glymph is an Clinical Associate Professor at Florida International University with the Department of Nurse Anesthesia Practice. Dr. Glymph also holds the rank of Colonel in the United States Army Reserves in which he has served in Afghanistan as a sole provider and had multiple leadership positions. Dr. Glymph has been involved in nursing anesthesia education for over 15 years. His research interest is in Patient Safety, Obstetrics pharmacology, Opioid education, Medication Assisted Thearapy, Biogenetics related to sigle nucleotide polymorphism and pharmaogenetics. He has had mentored 6 of his students to publication and is passionate about being a change agent in nursing anesthesia.
