Dueling Measures: Multiple ways to study one idea:
Satisfaction, awe, wonder, excitement, interest, curiosity... These ideas, experiences, and reactions are critical for museum visitors to have, but how do we come to understand those internal reactions to our work? At the CARE marketplace, evaluation and research professionals will present different ways to get at the same thing. Come hear about the merits of different questions, instruments, and methods, and discuss what might work or not work in your institution, your program, or your community!
Collections Stewardship:
Engage with museum professionals in collections-specific topics through round table discussions and poster presentations. Topics will include using collections to promote internal collaboration across museum departments, emergency and disaster preparedness, the pros and cons of touching museum collections, discussions about entering into and working within the museum field, and more!
Committee on Museum Professional Training:
This Marketplace will host the many different National and International Museum Studies degrees, certificates, and training programs. Whether you have an established career or are just starting out in the field, come see what kinds of opportunities are available for museum professional training.
Ask an Expert from the AAM Council of Affiliates:

Difficult Conversations: Welcoming LGBTQ Audiences and Staff:
In November 2017, 23 museums throughout the U.S. hosted a series of convenings to review and discuss AAM's Welcoming Guidelines for Museums. The Guidelines compile preferred practices for museums to use in working with LGBTQ audiences, professionals and communities. Over 600 museum professionals representing some 250 institutions attended the convenings, and this Marketplace session will review and discuss the issues raised (positive, negative, and otherwise) during discussions. AAM's LGBTQ Alliance intends to revise and update the Guidelines occasionally, and these discussions will help inform the first round of this process.
Media & Technology Network:
Come experience a selection of this year's MUSE Award winners. This dynamic meet and greet connects you with the amazing museum professionals and vendors who designed and built the winning programs. Get your hands on cutting edge interactives, informative mobile apps, impactful educational technologies, virtual experiences, and more.
