Building a Small Museum Archives

For many small museums, archival materials pose a special challenge: limited resources make it difficult to obtain the specialized knowledge that a trained archivist can provide. Four museum professionals will present creative solutions to identifying issues, developing a plan, and organizing archival materials to improve preservation, awareness, and access.

Learning Objectives:

• Learn how to identify and prioritize archival collections, and develop strategies for managing their preservation and access.
• Get an introduction to the planning procedures and potential resources for recruiting, supervising, and training archival interns or volunteers.
• Become better able to plan, strategize, and leverage resources to accomplish your goals for a small museum’s archives.
