Peabody Essex Museum
Gavin Andrews is the Chief Learning Officer at the Peabody Essex Museum. She has been instrumental in developing museum-based experiences that drive access to creativity, art, and culture through programming, community partnerships, and gallery interpretation. As Chief Learning Officer, she advances the museum's education and public programming goals by collaborating with artists, curators, educators, and community leaders.
During her time at PEM, Andrews has re-envisioned family engagement at the museum, led the program evolution and securing of endowed funds for the Creative Collaborations program, a multiple visit partnership program with regional Title 1 schools, and created the Art Link after-school program. She has led award-winning interpretation projects for exhibitions including Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones; Future Beauty: Avant-Garde Japanese Fashion; Asia in Amsterdam: The Culture of Luxury in the Golden Age, among others.
Andrews speaks at universities and national conferences about innovative and emerging approaches to engagement in museums. She has published work on diverse topics from material culture in the late Bronze Age in Israel to engaging children in creative art making. In addition to a BA in Art & Art History from the University of Texas at Austin and an MS in Arts Administration from Boston University, Andrews has professional training in program evaluation and assessment.
