Cameron Kitchin is the Louis and Louise Dieterle Nippert Director of the Cincinnati Art Museum, where he serves as the ninth director in the museum's 137-year history. He leads the museum's institutional vision, the renowned collection of over 67,000 art works spanning 6,000 years, diverse exhibitions, seventy-three collections galleries, educational initiatives, community engagement, outreach, scholarship, conservation, publications and 100,000-volume art library. Through the power of art, the Cincinnati Art Museum contributes to a more vibrant Cincinnati by inspiring its people and connecting our communities.
Kitchin was appointed Director of the Cincinnati Art Museum in 2014; previously he served as Director of the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art (2008-2014) and as Executive Director of the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (2002-2008). He is an alumnus of the Getty Leadership Institute and an active member of the Association of Art Museum Directors.
Kitchin is a nationally recognized innovator and leader in the museum field. His prior professional experience includes special projects with the American Association of Museums, where he managed AAM's complex strategic planning process and headed the field's national political campaign in support of museums. He also led the museum practice for Economics Research Associates, where he prepared master and business plans for museums and cultural attractions across the country.
Kitchin holds degrees in art history from Harvard University and business administration from William & Mary. He is a graduate of Leadership Cincinnati, New Memphis Institute, Leadership Memphis and the CIVIC Leadership Institute. Kitchin serves the field through numerous professional societies, task forces, boards and advisory councils. He is on the Executive Committee of the Cincinnati USA Convention and Visitors Bureau and the board of ICOM-US, the U.S. national committee of the International Council of Museums.
