PR70 - Outcome of Non-Surgical Endodontic Treatments of Dens Evaginatus

Thursday, April 26
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Room: Exhibit Hall

Dens evaginatus is a developmental anomaly of teeth characterized by an accessory cusp on the outer surface of teeth usually containing pulp tissue. This condition is clinically important because there is a risk of fracturing the cusp in normal function leading to pulp necrosis and apical periodontitis. Monitoring teeth with dens evaginatus is critical as teeth can lose its blood and nerve supply and may need root canal treatment. Treatment of teeth with dens evaginatus depends on pulp status, cusp integrity and stage of root development. To our knowledge, there has been no reported studies on the outcome of non-surgical endodontic treatment of teeth with dens evaginatus. The aim of this review is to assess the reported treatment outcome of teeth with dens evaginatus and identify factors which may influence the outcome. A search of the PubMed database was undertaken to identify published literature related to clinical and/or radiographical outcomes of non-surgical endodontic treatment of teeth with dens evaginatus. Key words such as dens evaginatus, non-surgical root canal treatment, outcomes, endodontic treatment and prognosis were used. Title lists were scanned and abstracts were read to determine utility. Selected articles meeting inclusion/exclusion criteria were then obtained and reviewed. Pooled and weighted success rates were determined from the data abstracted from the articles. We expect the results and conclusion at the time of presentation 2018.
