PR68 - Outcome of Primary Root Canal Treatment Using Modern Technologies: A Systematic Review

Thursday, April 26
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Room: Exhibit Hall

Aims: The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review of the literature in line with Ng et al, (2007) on the outcome of primary endodontic treatment using “modern” technologies. Only papers that were published after that study in the past 15 years were selected. Methodology: Clinical studies evaluating success rate of primary root canals, published from 2002-2017 in the four journals of International Endodontic J, JOE, OOOOE and Dental Traumatology, were selected using MEDLINE-OVID.  Studies were evaluated independently by three reviewers and selected based on the listed inclusion and exclusion criteria. Inclusion criteria involves: Clinical study on primary root canal treatment, sample size given, at least a six months post-operative follow-up, success rate evaluated based on clinical and radiographic exam (loose versus strict criteria), overall success rate present or could be calculated from raw data (Ng 2007). Each study was analyzed for its predictive factors and overall success rate. Results: Of the 28 articles identified, 20 studies fulfill the inclusion criteria and eight were excluded. Results are still in progress Conclusion: In progress

New York University College of Dentistry

I was raised in southern California and completed my undergraduate degree at UCLA. Afterwards, I moved to Florida for dental school and earned my DMD degree from Nova Southeastern University .I am currently a second year endodontic resident at NYU. My research is a systematic review that follows Ng et al. 2007 study with a modern approach. The goal of this study is to evaluate the effect of new technologies, such as microscopes and rotary instruments, in the outcome of primary root canals.
