Prof. Jesús K. Yamamoto-Furusho is Founder and Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic in the Department of Gastroenterology at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition Salvador Zubirán. He is also a Professor of the Fellow Program of Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and Professor of Gastroenterology at the Universidad Panamericana, National Researcher of the National Research System (SNI) level 3 by CONACYT. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine in Mexico, and was General Director of the Academic and Research Group of Crohn's and CUCI in Mexico (GAICCUM) from 2013 to 2015. He has served as President of the Pan American Crohn's and Colitis Organisation (PANCCO) since 2014. Dr. Yamamoto-Furusho obtained his Medical Doctor degree at the UNAM Faculty of Medicine. He specialized in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. He graduated with a Masters of Medical Science degree and PhD (with honors) at the UNAM, and completed his Postdoctoral degree in research and training of inflammatory bowel disease at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University. He is certified by the Board of Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Yamamoto-Furusho has received more than 50 awards and distinctions. He is a member of several journals. He has authored 150 original articles and reviews in international and nationwide indexed journals. He has received more than 1600 citations of his scientific publications. He has collaborated on 70 book chapters nationwide and 3 internationally. He has presented more than 300 research papers at national and international congresses. He is the editor of several books on IBD including the first book of Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Mexico and Latin America (2010). He is Editor in Chief of IBD Reviews (since 2015) and Associate Editor in the Revista de Gastroenterologia de Mexico Journal (since 2015).
